Bowed basement walls are caused by too much pressure pushing against your basement walls. When water drains into the ground by your foundation, the soil expands as it absorbs water, pushing against your basement walls. And as the soil dries, it pulls away from your basement walls, creating weak areas in your foundation. This is a serious foundation issue that needs to be repaired ASAP!
Wall cracks, floor cracks, and ceiling cracks are the number one sign that your foundation may be failing. Brick and block cracks are a result of house settling, which if left unchecked can create serious damage. Horizontal, vertical or stair step cracks in your foundation or brick facing indicate that your foundation is need of repair. Inside of your home, drywall cracks, stucco or plaster cracks, and ceiling cracks also are a clear indication of foundation failure.
Chimney leaning or brick cracks are a sign that you have a house settlement problem. Your chimney is the heaviest portion of your home and there’s a lot of weight concentrated in a small space. If your foundation isn’t stable or the soil that your foundation sits on is unstable then your chimney will start to lean or bricks will crack.
Uneven, bowing or sagging floors are caused by settling support columns or sagging floor joists. When your home is built, the support structure is designed to hold whatever is on top of it. Over time unstable soil, poor support design or waterproofing issues will damage your home’s foundation which could cause your uneven floors.
Stuck windows and doors are a result of house settling and can be a sign that your home’s foundation requires repair. Doors and windows can stick, swing open after being pushed shut, or have gaps around the top and bottom when your foundation is sinking. Problems such as this are normally a result of poor soil preparation during construction or inadequate drainage around your foundation.
Floor gaps, wall gaps and gaps between your floor and baseboards are a sign that you have sagging floor joists or your house is settling. Both of these problems are safety hazards and, if left unfixed, will cause additional damage to your home.
Ground sinking near your home’s foundation indicates that you have a serious foundation problem. It may not be the first thing you notice so look for other common foundation problem signs like drywall cracks, stuck windows, house settling noises, and cracked bricks.
Drywall nail pops are small, cracked circles where the nail pulls away from the drywall or sheet rock, exposing the nail head or pushing the paint away from the wall. Drywall nail pops occur when you have house settlement. While drywall nail pops seem like nothing more than a minor annoyance, they could be a sign that your house is settling and may have other foundation issues.

The personnel at JES Foundation Repair Ashland were consummate professionals from the beginning of the process to the end. Our 90-plus-year-old house was sinking by 2" in its middle, so it was imperative that we right the foundation. Tice, utilizing high-tech equipment, assiduously inspected our house for a full four hours, going through every possible detail in a comprehensive and fully comprehensible way–including his offering of affordable financing. In addition, he kept in contact with us every step of the way, patiently answering our multitudinous queries and most importantly aiding us in navigating the permitting process through Albemarle county. Roberto and Oscar, who did the install of a dozen beams and a sump pump, were highly knowledgeable, had numerous years of experience, and worked tirelessly in their doing of a superior job on site; they also did a nice job of cleaning up on the last day. Materials were of the highest quality–there was no cutting corners with JES. All went seamlessly from the beginning of the process to its culmination. I have no reservations whatsoever about JES Foundation and the work they did, and would unhesitatingly recommend them to anyone–the peace of mind they brought us, knowing that our house's foundation is once again stable, is priceless.

My experience with JES for the most part was great! Mr. John Trak was my initial inspector who confirmed my fears, but showed me the best way to fix the problem. There were a few scheduling conflicts but once my crew showed up they completed my project in two days. Thank you Dustin my site lead, once he took control he showed up, and performed. I am a very satisfied customer of JES. I contacted the company regarding concerns my husband I had concerning a few cracks in my wallboard, tape pulling away and spongy floors. My initial contact was with Kyle Clayton, Contractor Representative, we talked at length about what was needed to correct our concerns. He went under my home, took photos and shot level lines and I was told the house had a small amount of settlement that was causing my problems and to fix the spongy floors, I was told what was needed and explained how all would work. I agreed to the work, an appointment was set up that day as to when the work would start. I received an e-mail from the company telling me of the person that would be following my job and she would be my contact person for any questions and or complaints. I am happy to say I never had to contact her. I received a phone call reminder as to when the crew would show up to do the repairs and the crew called me that day that they were on their way and would arrive at the time agreed upon. I had 4 steel beams put in with 7 large steel jacks for support. The cracks are repaired to the point that when the wall patch work is done, it will stay repaired and I no longer have spongy floors. The floors are solid and strong feeling. So much better! I would like to thank JES and their crew that did the work under my home. They had a hard job and did it in a friendly, courteous, professional manner. Any question I had was answered on the spot and the Supervisor came to the job every day to be sure everything was being done to my satisfaction and to also answer any questions I had. I would like to thank the Field Superintendent Everado Copado and the crew, Roberto, Fausto and Carmilo for your hard work and leaving my home in better shape than before you arrived. Everything was left clean and tidy and I appreciate your help! Thank you!

They called us back immediately and had a tech at our home the very next morning! Jeff Tyree was absolutely incredible! He inspected the house thoroughly, was honest, very professional and explained everything to us in a manner we could understand. While we ultimately didn’t have foundation issues, he helped us uncover a different plumbing related issue we did not know existed, which ultimately saved us thousands of dollars! Made a few recommendations but really focused and addressed our concern/problem areas. This is greatly appreciated.Roberto and Jose Martinez, the installation crew were very polite and professional as well. Addressed all concerns and answered every question showing their expertise in the field. They were very clean throughout the installation. Under the house was left better than before. We had plastic underneath but needed to be removed in order for them to work. Did not expect them to re-line the ground upon completion but they used heavy duty plastic as a replacement. This is greatly appreciated. It is always the little things that make the difference in projects to homeowners. I would like to also mention Jo in the Richmond area office. Was very helpful in getting the information on the account up to date and taking the payment over the phone. Very well spoken and appreciate the small chit chat. She was a tremendous asset. Celeste was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly thorough from start to finish. He was easy to get ahold of in a pinch and made sure we had a clear understanding of what was being done and why. Our foreman Brandon Warren and his team (Roosevelt White, Tyler H., and Larry Jr.) were nothing short of amazing. They were super polite, provided clear communication/status updates, and were extremely efficient – completed an estimated 3-day job in our basement in a day and a half! Over 6 months after having JES complete installing a liner, dehumidifier and pump under our family room addition, we still noticed water. The service repair person, Ethan Mooney, recently came and found that the pump was never plugged in! Ethan was professional and not only fixed that easy problem but installed new equipment and inspected the liner. He was wonderful.

JES did an amazing job on our concrete driveway going into our garage. The driveway had settled in was several inches below the garage, making it very difficult to get into the garage. JES gave us a reasonable estimate and sent Austin to do the repairs. He did an amazing job. Our driveway looks great and now it is not a chore to get into the garage anymore and the driveway looks so much better than it did before JES did the repairs. Austin was excellent in his customer service as he explained the entire process and even allowed me to watch as the amazing process took place. He answered all my questions and made sure that I knew exactly what he was doing. I would use JES for my repairs again and I would encourage anybody that has foundation and driveway repair needing done to use JES. And if you can get Austin to be your repairman, then that is even better!
