Problems like leaks and mold commonly plague area basements. They should be inspected and remedied before serious damage results. Learn about JES’s trusted basement waterproofing solutions and more here.
Baltimore is among the top locations in Maryland with houses with basements. These areas of the home can be used for a variety of purposes, including laundry, storage, bedrooms, office space, entertainment area or fan cave, and more. However, this mostly below-grade space can fall victim to different damage like humidity, leaking water, mold, and other nuisances. But these are more than just minor annoyances. These are significant problems that negatively affect the health and well-being of your home and family.
The best way to combat these problems is with trusted basement waterproofing solutions. JES Foundation Repair is proud to offer various permanent solutions to keep water out of your basement and give you a safe and healthy home.
Basement Problem Signs in Baltimore
Basement damage can manifest in numerous ways and is sometimes intertwined with or mistaken for other problems, such as foundation issues. These signs are not to be taken lightly, as they often indicate serious underlying concerns that require immediate attention.
Common Indications of Basement Problems
Visible Leaks and Flooding: Persistent damp spots, puddles, or noticeable flooding in your basement are blatant signs of water intrusion.
Wet Carpet or Drywall: If your basement carpet or drywall is consistently damp or displaying signs of water damage, such as discoloration, it likely indicates a moisture problem.
Condensation: Excessive moisture in your basement can lead to condensation on walls, floors, pipes, or other surfaces, which may suggest inadequate ventilation or waterproofing.
High Humidity: A persistently humid basement may signify poor ventilation or lack of appropriate dehumidification, potentially leading to structural damage over time.
Musty Basement Smells: Musty or damp odors in your basement are often a telltale sign of persistent moisture problems, which can lead to mold growth if left unaddressed.
Mold: Mold growth in your basement is a serious issue, often resulting from consistent dampness or water seepage. This can cause potential health risks as well as damage to your property.
Efflorescence: The appearance of a white, chalky substance on your basement walls or floor is known as efflorescence. It’s a sign of ongoing water seepage and is caused by salts left behind when water evaporates.
At the first sign of any of these issues, it is critical to contact our basement waterproofing professionals at JES. The sooner the problem is addressed, the less extensive — and expensive — the damage is likely to be. By promptly identifying and rectifying these signs, you can prevent long-term damage and maintain the structural integrity of your home.
Basements in Baltimore can sustain water intrusion and damage for various reasons. Because the basement typically houses plumbing and appliances, things like a leaking pipe, leaky water heater, or sump pump issues are internal sources that can lead to damage. However, the most common causes of damage have to do with how the area’s soil and weather interact. Even though Baltimore’s soil is generally deep and well-drained, it could easily become inundated with regular, heavy precipitation. The saturated soil can create an artificial water table, contribute to the clay bowl effect, and lead to hydrostatic pressure that can result in basement wall cracks and leaks.
When it comes to securing the longevity and safety of your home, professional basement waterproofing solutions stand out as an essential component. In Baltimore, JES provides a myriad of customized solutions tailored to address the specific repair and waterproofing needs of your basement.
JES Basement Waterproofing Solutions
Interior Drainage Systems: A strategically planned and installed interior drainage system can effectively collect and redirect water that seeps into your basement. It is a non-invasive and reliable method for protecting your basement from water damage.
Sump Pumps:Sump pumps are integral for preventing basement flooding during heavy rainfall. They actively pump out water that collects in the sump pit, keeping your basement dry and safe.
Dehumidifiers: Excessive humidity can lead to moisture problems and potential mold growth in your basement. Our high-quality dehumidifiers maintain optimal humidity levels, preserving the structural integrity and health of your basement.
Wall Vapor Barriers: Wall vapor barriers are an excellent solution to prevent moisture from seeping through your basement walls. They serve as an extra layer of protection, keeping your basement dry and reducing the likelihood of mold and mildew.
These solutions, although beneficial individually, are designed to work in unison, providing a comprehensive and robust waterproofing solution. Their coordinated application ensures your home remains free of water and moisture for good, creating a safer and more enjoyable living space.

Had the pleasure of dealing with Jason Gamse today and he did an excellent job of not only educating us in regards to the work his company does but also assisting us in the best process to get what we needed done to our home. He was the third person that came out and the saying “save the best for last” definitely applied to him. After this job is done we will come back for any future work needed for our home and definitely ask for him personally.

First and foremost, I NEVER write reviews; however, I found it necessary in this case because the two young men who came to perform the work were true professionals. Foreman Michael Kuffour and Co-foreman Alan Brown arrived on time! They professionally introduced themselves. I felt immediately at ease because once I directed them to the area that needed repair, they quickly communicated operation issues and recommended changes so that the work to be performed was accurately understood in layperson's terms. They utilized precision measuring instruments and fixtures to measure the dimensions of finished work pieces: downspouts and sump pump operations. They were extremely conscientious and ensured that work complied with all relevant codes, standards, and job specifications. They followed procedures to maintain the work environment neat and orderly. Mike, the Project Supervisor, arrived. Mike was knowledgeable and provided information on further work and any materials and equipment needed. He communicated ways to gain efficiencies and more effective installation methods in collaboration with us (the customer), which I greatly appreciated so that we could meet the goals and work towards a final resolution to our water problem. He inspected the Encapsulation work under the crawl space also. Once the meeting was over, I felt secure that the remainder of the result would be proficiently performed and up to code. I recommend JES to anyone, for they provide A-1 work. The guys that they sent were tens (10) in every sense. For this, I give them five stars ***** . Thank You

4 star due to scheduling issues I had and having to call to get the work completed.Joe Crossfield/David Gaskins/Larry and crew were great.Joe was the sales guy that came out to quote us for the work. He was very polite and was honest about what needed to be done. He didn’t upsell us on any add ons and helped us save a little bit of money by offering alternatives for the encapsulation project.Larry and crew: they came and did the work and did a great job. Cleaned up after themselves and completed the work. Not sure if it was the day or the overwhelming work the crew had, but I felt like I was rushed when I asked questions and felt like an inconvenience when I did asked questions. So I didn’t appreciate that.David Gaskins: was polite and explained how to clean the dehumidifier and all that. Explained what the RH% should be in the crawlspace and showed me how to work the dehumidifier. I originally called because I wanted my encapsulated crawlspace to be at 40% RH but it wasn’t getting there. He explained to me that it is possible for the machine to get down that low but explained the issue that I may have with my foundation and wood beam. He was very honest and did not rush me when I was asking the questions.Cons:-After paying the deposit, I had to give the office a call to schedule my appointment. I would think that they would call me to schedule and get it on the books, but that did not happen.-the scheduler scheduled the encapsulation, but not the electricians subcontractor. You would think that they should schedule the electrician first before the work so that the work is totally complete once the crew comes. I ended up calling the office, getting the phone number to the electricians, and calling the electricians myself to get something scheduled since the office could only email the subcontractor to be put on the books.

Foreman David Gaskins came to our house after our basement was waterproofed. Some water came in from a heavy rain and and a repair we were promised was not done. David inspected the waterproofing work and found what needed to be done to be sure water would not come in again. This has been a very stressful time for us but David has been wonderful and gone above and beyond to keep in constant touch with us and coming up with a plan on how to make the corrections. We are just so thankful that he is the one that came to our house to look at what the problem was. Your company is lucky to have him.
