Lynnhaven River NOW

Nearly 60 participants gathered in the South Pembroke Basin of the Lynnhaven river and spent the morning and afternoon picking trash and debris from the water and shores around the section of the river.

The major factor that caused the degradation of the Lynnhaven River is also now the river’s biggest strength and hope for the future: PEOPLE.

In 2002, a committed group of local citizens came together to foster partnerships that would apply public and private resources to the challenge of reducing pollution in the Lynnhaven. That core group formed the nucleus of what has grown into an award winning river restoration project with over 8,000 members called Lynnhaven River NOW. “Now” because the work of restoring and protecting the beautiful Lynnhaven River is something that we can do NOW for ourselves and for our children and grandchildren.

JES Foundation Repair gather a small group of volunteers on two separate occasions, once in 2013 and again in 2014 to assist on a clean up in the River Cleanup events of June and August, respectfully. Nearly 60 participants gathered in the South Pembroke Basin of the Lynnhaven river and spent the morning and afternoon picking trash and debris from the water and shores around the section of the river. Among the trash was a rusted old bicycle, two car tires, and a baby car seat, along with 12 trash bag worth of small items like fast food bags and containers, plastic bottles, discard and torn pieces of netting and tarping, and various other garbage.

The company participants enjoyed their time in the sun and felt pride in cleaning their area. JES Plans to try to participate at least twice a year in 2015 and 2016, and if possible expand that in upcoming years.
