JES Foundation Repair Partners with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank
Employees pull together to collect several hundred pounds of food and other items, providing nearly 200 meals for the hungry
Appomattox, VA (September 21, 2018) – JES Foundation Repair, a Groundworks Company, joined the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank to collect food for the regions’ hungry families. As part of their Goodworks program, the team at the Appomattox and Salem based foundation repair company donated and collected 232 pounds of food and other items.
Canned soups and vegetables, stews, chili, cereal, peanut butter, spaghetti, mac & cheese, pasta and many other items, including paper products, baby food, formula, and diapers were brought in by the JES staff. Representatives of the food bank estimated JES’ collective donation was equal to 193.33 meals.
“Every year our food lines become longer and longer as there are more families who find they are in need of our services,” said Jennifer Clark Robertson, Volunteer & Food Drive Coordinator for Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. “We are grateful to have the support of JES Foundation Repair to help us in our mission to ensure that everyone in our community has enough food to eat.”
According to Feeding America’s annual “Map the Meal Gap” study, over 12 percent of Virginians are “food insecure,” and in some areas the percentage of people who could go hungry is even higher.
“Many people in Southwest Virginia do not always know where they will find their next meal,” Courtney Fulcher stated. Courtney helps lead the Goodworks initiative for the company. “The team at JES felt that the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank was a great organization to team up with to help the regions’ hungry families.”
The Groundworks Companies Goodworks program was established to unify all 5 of the Groundworks Brands under one community service initiative. While each branch office partners with a different nonprofit organization throughout the year, the goal is to encourage employees to get involved in at least one community service project per quarter. The employees of JES in the Appomattox branch chose to help the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank for their third quarter charitable giving partnership.
