Stella Waltz, Co-Owner, JES
Stella Waltz and her husband, Jesse Waltz, founded JES Foundation Repair in 1993. Together, they have successfully navigated the growing pains of turning a small business into a multi-million dollar enterprise. JES has since become a leader in foundation repair, crawl space moisture management and basement waterproofing solutions for residential and commercial properties throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The husband-wife team also owns KBH Business Management Systems which, in 2009, developed Bizwiz©®, a web-based, mobile-friendly software that helps entrepreneurs and business owners in related industries “grow their business by knowing their business.” JES and KBH employ over 250 people in three Virginia offices.
Recognized as a consistent figure in the advertising and marketing campaigns that helped catapult JES into a household name, Stella’s roots are firmly anchored in the Tidewater area. The Norfolk native graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and received a BA in Biology from Virginia Wesleyan College. After earning her Master’s Degree in Community Health Education with an emphasis in Physical Therapy at Old Dominion University, she went on to practice physical therapy in Virginia and Maryland. For 15 years, she worked to develop and restore physical function in patients aged 10 to 103.
Stella’s extensive experience in the health care industry gifted her with an ideal blend of compassion and competence. After 9/11, she was inspired to begin teaching local organizations, groups and schools about proper flag retirement. She became a sought-after speaker on proper flag retirement as well as flag history and etiquette. Stella’s patriotism and passion for showing others how to handle the flag with respect stems from childhood. Her mother and father instilled in her a deep love of country early on, sharing stories about their personal experiences during World War II from the home front to the war zone.
In 2008, Stella launched an annual flag collection initiative, designating the company’s headquarters in Virginia Beach as a drop-off site for worn, tattered American flags. For her admirable mission and teachings, she is affectionately referred to as the “Flag Lady”. Her contributions to JES are reflected in outreach initiatives such as these and throughout the company’s culture and aesthetic. Named a 2015 Women In Business honoree by Inside Business, Stella’s commitment to entrepreneurial excellence is evident. Her company has been included in the Virginia Chamber of Commerce’s “Fantastic 50” as one of the 50 fastest-growing companies in Virginia four years in a row. In addition to several worldwide industry awards for sales, JES was identified among the Best Places to Work in Hampton Roads and received the Roaring 20 award four times from Inside Business. The company earned the “Best of Foundation Repair” title from Coastal Virginia Magazine multiple times, and was featured as a “Workplace of the Future” in Virginia Business. JES and KBH both won the coveted Small Business of the Year Award from the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. In 2016, KBH was selected as a Blue Ribbon Small Business Award winner by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Giving Back – Our Community Commitment
Stella is an active member of the community and a proud supporter of several social causes including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the Valor Awards for first responders, and the Great Neck Baseball League. Additionally, she strives to always make time for family and friends. Her personal mantra is, “Never be too busy making a living that you forget to make a life.” She enjoys creating memories with her husband Jesse, their daughter (Kristin, 19), two sons (Ben, 18 and Hunter, 12) and two dogs as well as extended family and friends. Her favorite pastimes include cooking, playing tennis, attending her children’s sporting events and participating in water activities such as boating, crabbing and clamming. She believes every day is a blessing and revels in the beauty of sunrises and sunsets. She admittedly prefers fresh air on the shoreline to any caffeine source out there.
