Bowed basement walls are caused by too much pressure pushing against your basement walls. When water drains into the ground by your foundation, the soil expands as it absorbs water, pushing against your basement walls. And as the soil dries, it pulls away from your basement walls, creating weak areas in your foundation. This is a serious foundation issue that needs to be repaired ASAP!
Wall cracks, floor cracks, and ceiling cracks are the number one sign that your foundation may be failing. Brick and block cracks are a result of house settling, which if left unchecked can create serious damage. Horizontal, vertical or stair step cracks in your foundation or brick facing indicate that your foundation is need of repair. Inside of your home, drywall cracks, stucco or plaster cracks, and ceiling cracks also are a clear indication of foundation failure.
Chimney leaning or brick cracks are a sign that you have a house settlement problem. Your chimney is the heaviest portion of your home and there’s a lot of weight concentrated in a small space. If your foundation isn’t stable or the soil that your foundation sits on is unstable then your chimney will start to lean or bricks will crack.
Uneven, bowing or sagging floors are caused by settling support columns or sagging floor joists. When your home is built, the support structure is designed to hold whatever is on top of it. Over time unstable soil, poor support design or waterproofing issues will damage your home’s foundation which could cause your uneven floors.
Stuck windows and doors are a result of house settling and can be a sign that your home’s foundation requires repair. Doors and windows can stick, swing open after being pushed shut, or have gaps around the top and bottom when your foundation is sinking. Problems such as this are normally a result of poor soil preparation during construction or inadequate drainage around your foundation.
Floor gaps, wall gaps and gaps between your floor and baseboards are a sign that you have sagging floor joists or your house is settling. Both of these problems are safety hazards and, if left unfixed, will cause additional damage to your home.
Ground sinking near your home’s foundation indicates that you have a serious foundation problem. It may not be the first thing you notice so look for other common foundation problem signs like drywall cracks, stuck windows, house settling noises, and cracked bricks.
Drywall nail pops are small, cracked circles where the nail pulls away from the drywall or sheet rock, exposing the nail head or pushing the paint away from the wall. Drywall nail pops occur when you have house settlement. While drywall nail pops seem like nothing more than a minor annoyance, they could be a sign that your house is settling and may have other foundation issues.

We live in a newer home and our pest control service noticed the crawl space had high humidity. To protect our investment, we decide to encapsulate the crawl space. Christian Distler-Caravetta at JES inspected the crawl and provided a couple options. Upon purchase Christian had the job completed the following week, and in one day. On June 20th I met an inspector named Michael Riskin who came to my house to complete a foundation inspection. The initial problem was my step was cracked and falling apart. I was afraid to walk upstairs. After the the inspection was done I informed his company could not complete the repairs but he didn’t just say I am done we can’t do the repairs. He took the time to explain the problem and gave me a solution with another company. I felt so comfortable and confident about moving forward with my next step with the help from Micheal. That’s not it he also gave me some advice about safe and fixing my steps on my deck in which this was not part of his job. He did not know I had no idea how to go about fixing or get started with anything repairing of those stairs. He took the out of his schedule to text me the size and kind of nails to get and how far to go so I would not cause any more problems. Michael think you for being a caring person to a stranger who need help in more ways the knew. Thank you so kindly.

We were very pleased with the prompt, courteous, efficient and professional response for service on our Basement Dehumidifier Unit performed by Christopher Phillips on behalf of the JES team today. The unit was initially expertly installed by Andrew Alman with JES and has performed exceptionally well until recently. Mr. Phillips was able to perform a comprehensive diagnostic survey to uncover a problem and to restore complete function. Within minutes our ambient relative humidity was restored and our basement environment improved. I am a very satisfied customer of JES. I contacted the company regarding concerns my husband I had concerning a few cracks in my wallboard, tape pulling away and spongy floors. My initial contact was with Kyle Clayton, Contractor Representative, we talked at length about what was needed to correct our concerns. He went under my home, took photos and shot level lines and I was told the house had a small amount of settlement that was causing my problems and to fix the spongy floors, I was told what was needed and explained how all would work. I agreed to the work, an appointment was set up that day as to when the work would start. I received an e-mail from the company telling me of the person that would be following my job and she would be my contact person for any questions and or complaints. I am happy to say I never had to contact her. I received a phone call reminder as to when the crew would show up to do the repairs and the crew called me that day that they were on their way and would arrive at the time agreed upon. I had 4 steel beams put in with 7 large steel jacks for support. The cracks are repaired to the point that when the wall patch work is done, it will stay repaired and I no longer have spongy floors. The floors are solid and strong feeling. So much better! I would like to thank JES and their crew that did the work under my home. They had a hard job and did it in a friendly, courteous, professional manner. Any question I had was answered on the spot and the Supervisor came to the job every day to be sure everything was being done to my satisfaction and to also answer any questions I had. I would like to thank the Field Superintendent Everado Copado and the crew, Roberto, Fausto and Carmilo for your hard work and leaving my home in better shape than before you arrived. Everything was left clean and tidy and I appreciate your help! Thank you!

Very appreciate of the work done to solve water issues in my basement. Antoine Gant, Gerald Peoples, and Troy Griffin did a phenomenal job installing a drainage system and pump. Along with the installation work, they also helped clear all the sandbags away from the work area. I’m thankful for their willingness to go above and beyond the scope of the job. It was a huge help. They were tidy, patient, and open to answering any questions I had. After they were done they gave me very specific instructions on how to manage the work area. No complaints at all about the work these gentleman did in my home! Blessings.

Andre Williams from JES did a long-overdue and much needed inspection of my crawlspace upgrade done by JES. My crawlspace entrance is not very big and can be challenging. I do not feel comfortable attempting to crawl down there! He made sure that the sump pumps and air-handler were all plugged-in and operating—replacing the back-up battery, which was dead. He is extremely knowledgeable, personable, and efficient—I am so grateful to know that everything is working smoothly.

Chris Phillips was amazing. He was friendly, knowledgeable and completely saved us from getting flooded in the crawl. We didn’t realize an outlet where one of the pumps was plugged into, was inoperable.. he could have just left it that way and told us to get an electrician – but he went above and beyond to actually find a solution until we could get an electrician to fix it. Which minimizes the emergency for us. Now we can take a day to get it fixed without the concern of flooding. Thanks Chris!

Paul came to my home to provide an estimate on insulation replacement. He called to inform me he was ahead of schedule and to get permission to arrive a little earlier. He was very professional, knowledgeable, friendly and upfront. He provided a full inspection of my crawl space with a video showing exactly where the issues were with my insulation and mold. I felt he was very thorough and honest in his findings and I appreciate that even though the estimate was free, he did not try to force me to make an immediate purchase commitment.
