Bowed basement walls are caused by too much pressure pushing against your basement walls. When water drains into the ground by your foundation, the soil expands as it absorbs water, pushing against your basement walls. And as the soil dries, it pulls away from your basement walls, creating weak areas in your foundation. This is a serious foundation issue that needs to be repaired ASAP!
Wall cracks, floor cracks, and ceiling cracks are the number one sign that your foundation may be failing. Brick and block cracks are a result of house settling, which if left unchecked can create serious damage. Horizontal, vertical or stair step cracks in your foundation or brick facing indicate that your foundation is need of repair. Inside of your home, drywall cracks, stucco or plaster cracks, and ceiling cracks also are a clear indication of foundation failure.
Chimney leaning or brick cracks are a sign that you have a house settlement problem. Your chimney is the heaviest portion of your home and there’s a lot of weight concentrated in a small space. If your foundation isn’t stable or the soil that your foundation sits on is unstable then your chimney will start to lean or bricks will crack.
Uneven, bowing or sagging floors are caused by settling support columns or sagging floor joists. When your home is built, the support structure is designed to hold whatever is on top of it. Over time unstable soil, poor support design or waterproofing issues will damage your home’s foundation which could cause your uneven floors.
Stuck windows and doors are a result of house settling and can be a sign that your home’s foundation requires repair. Doors and windows can stick, swing open after being pushed shut, or have gaps around the top and bottom when your foundation is sinking. Problems such as this are normally a result of poor soil preparation during construction or inadequate drainage around your foundation.
Floor gaps, wall gaps and gaps between your floor and baseboards are a sign that you have sagging floor joists or your house is settling. Both of these problems are safety hazards and, if left unfixed, will cause additional damage to your home.
Ground sinking near your home’s foundation indicates that you have a serious foundation problem. It may not be the first thing you notice so look for other common foundation problem signs like drywall cracks, stuck windows, house settling noises, and cracked bricks.
Drywall nail pops are small, cracked circles where the nail pulls away from the drywall or sheet rock, exposing the nail head or pushing the paint away from the wall. Drywall nail pops occur when you have house settlement. While drywall nail pops seem like nothing more than a minor annoyance, they could be a sign that your house is settling and may have other foundation issues.

We had a great experience with JES! They came out and encapsulated our crawl space we have had ground water issues for a long time. Our crawl space was covered in water, mud, and mold. We have even had other companies come to give us a quote that refused to go down there. The work crew was amazing we had Cory m, Shaine C. And Chris jr out they were hard working on time and kind and very communicative. We even had questions after the job was complete they always responded. I was on the fence about hiring this contractor because of the mix reviews but I am happy we did I am no longer freaking out because I smell mold in my home. However this was a very expensive fix JES is not cheap but they got the work done

I had forman Charles and installers Hunter, Ricco, and Rock come out and encapsulate my crawl space today. The guys were prompt, professional, and very polite! I highly recommend their work (they need a drone to help with photos in tight crawlspaces like mine lol). This is a huge expensive project, but a heck of an investment. Dont hire your cousin to do this job (the previous owner of my house did this, my floors sag and i had mold on my joists), hire professionals, I highly recommend the JES crew. Our house was starting to make noises and I noticed drywall cracks. At first I assumed this was from my dinosaur footed stomping children but these symptoms kept getting worse and so I decided it was time to start researching options. After a few google searches and reviews I reached out to JES and a few competitors. Mike Mele came out and sat with me and I explained to him what we were experiencing. He walked me around the house and showed me what was happening and where. He tested with a laser level and proved that the back side of our house was sinking and then we went into the crawl space. Mike inspected all of the support beams and showed me exactly where there was separation from the beams and how it was affecting the house. I was given a presentation of what JES could and would do. Mike explained to me that their system does not guarantee the house being level, but that the house would not sink any further. Price was fair compared to competitors, and after being offered a 3 year maintenance plan, I requested adding the 5 year maintenance plan instead. JES said they would contact me every 6 months to slowly adjust the jack beams as needed. Deposit paid, contract signed. Permitting took around a month or so. I have nothing nice to say about the county I live in. They are slow and as they are government entities, inherently and completely inept. I was put on the schedule after a few follow up emails between JES and myself. Install was hopefully a 2 day period, IF, the county finished inspections. Day 1 of install, our installer, foreman Abdul Kargbo came out and got to work. He was ready by the afternoon with intentions of the inspector coming the next day to confirm the footer digs were correct. Next day, a Friday the inspector never came, even though he was scheduled, and the crew sat all day and did nothing all day waiting for him to come. Tuesday, the inspector finally came, albeit late, and approved the footers and Tuesday Abdul and Roman came back to do the work. They worked well into the evening to finish the job. Abdul requested a review and I told him that once the final inspection was approved, I would give one. I IMMEDIATELY noticed a difference in the way the floors felt and sounded. Items that were prone to shaking in cabinets were no longer making noise. Floor creaks that were annoying, but that we had gotten used to were gone. The house felt far more sturdy. My kids incessant stomping no longer shook pictures on the wall. The next day I called Mike back to let him know how everything went and that I was happy. I asked him about the final inspection timeline. Mike asked for a review and I told him the same thing I told Abdul. Once final was approved I would do so. Here begins frustrations for us. I don't hold JES entirely responsible for this however because the county staffed with government workers, I think JES could have been more aggressive on our behalf with the county. I understand JES has a delicate relationship with the counties and have to balance customer expectations with the ability to continue to operate at the behest of the counties they operate within. The county claimed they didn't have an engineering letter. These are basically liability transfers that keep the county inspectors from putting their necks on the line, but still enable to to collect the money. Within the packet that was posted to my door were all the engineering packet that showed the math, plans and a letter with a certification stamp. We had to go back and forth with JES and the county ourselves to get this moving faster. I do not believe the county didn't have this letter, or at bare minimum have enough to approve the project. I do know the county is inept. County approved the project in spite of them saying they didn't have plans. Which were included in the packet taped to my door. Due to my disgust with government, JES still gets a 5 star, regardless of the frustrations we had to deal with. Thanks Mike, Abdul and all the JES crew. It was great working with you. See you in 6 months for the check up!

JES installed my sump pump in October 2023. Today (9/25/24) was my annual maintenance appointment to be sure that everything was working well with it. My technician, Ben, contacted me on 9/24/24 to check in with me on any possible issues that he needed to be made aware of prior to my appointment as well as to confirm my appointment. Very professional and polite. Fast forward to the appointment, Ben arrived on time, once again was very professional. I showed him where it was installed so he could get to work. Unbeknownst to both Ben and I, well there was no power going to the sump pump. That was as easy as flipping a switch on the breaker box. Then, Ben noticed a leak in the piping that was installed when the sump pump was installed. Ben ended up having to cut my drywall in which JES will incur the cost to repair it back. But this was nothing he couldn’t handle although he did have to make an unexpected run to Home Depot/Lowes to get the tool needed to cut the pipe. Ben returned in a decent amount of time and got right to work. Ben repaired the pipe, cleaned the sump pump bucket, and ensured everything was working correctly. Towards the end of the appointment, Ben made a few recommendations and ending up finding out that the piping that is coming out of the from of my house that pushes the water out was installed incorrectly and was not was I paid for. Therefore, Ben made a call to his supervisor, Megan Hartman, to put her on notice about this issue as well. Ben assured me that someone from the service department would reach out to me to schedule repairs for the piping outside as well as the wall repair. Overall, I would give Ben a 10/10 and would highly recommend him as your service tech. He made sure to answer any questions I had to the best of his ability, remain professional, kept me informed throughout the whole appt, valued me as a paying customer, and advised me that if I had any further questions after this appt that I shouldn’t hesitate to reach out to him. I have had a great experience with JES! It started with my annual inspection with Joey Guth who did the inspection and he found a couple of issues! He showed me pictures and explained the solutions! He also presented me with an estimate for the repairs! Once I accepted the estimate! It was only a couple of weeks before JES could get the permits and a crew ready to. One do the work. The crew was Luis and Jose! They showed up on time and were very courteous and respectful to my concerns. Luis showed me pictures of the work and was able to explain exactly what they had done to stabilize the foundation of my house! They left my yard clean! I was especially pleased with the guys who worked on site- Brian, Gio, Mohammed, and Davey did a great job getting the work done quickly and thoroughly. They went above in beyond in making sure the work was done (even repairing some undiscovered foundation cracks). The electrician stayed late to make sure everything stayed on schedule. We had a lot of hills we had to climb and plans to change but the JES team did it. They started the project, ran into some issues, and had to rewrite the plans. I made a few calls and management came out and the project was back on. Joseph “Joe” Palotas, Certified Field Inspector, and Nick Feaster, Sales Manager, did an amazing job of making sure we could continue the repairs when we hit a wall. Neither Joe nor Nick are scared to get their hands dirty. Nick even came out and explained in detail what needed to be done and put on his boot and went to work helping. The crew, Michael Burrell, Steve Marshall, and Nick Feaster are very nice, polite young men. They did an excellent job getting everything done in an acceptable time manner. When the project was complete they took the time to explain everything to me in great detail. Very happy with the service JES provided.

We are long term clients of JES – Ashland. Recently, we met Zach during our annual check up. He was refreshingly comprehensive in his explanation on the condition of our crawl space. In a 90 year old home, things do continue to change and he recommended we adjust the current jack system to stabilize it with some alterations which would adjust and reinforce the aged construction. Additionally we upgraded the dehumidification system. Zach was knowledgeable and efficient. We also would like to commend his supervisor, “J.B.” , who helped coordinate the job and the installation crew. The workers were polite and efficient. We are very pleased with the results. I still don’t know how they could negotiate working in a VERY low crawl space! Thanks expediting the installation by moving the date for us when the permit arrived earlier than expected. Everyone we interacted with made us glad we stayed with JES. You make us feel like “family”.

From the beginning of the project, Celeste explained the entire sequence of events during the sales stage and kept in touch as the job went along from leveling the cement patio and sidewalk, removing the cement flooring, installing stones, tracking and sump pump discharge line. I am writing to call out the excellent job done on our basement in Staunton by the crew of David Coffer, Bryan Conklin and Taquan McCoy. It was a daunting project because of a flooded basement and everything completely iced over. They had to chop a 40 foot path through 6 inch ice to even reach the basement and then they had to drain 3 inches of water before they could start. There was not one word of complaint about any of this and it was truly pleasant just to be around them while they were working. They did a thoroughly professional job and seemed to enjoy doing it. I experienced water coming through my basement walls after two bad rainstorms last September; JES sales representative Adam Crall came later that month to generate a thorough estimate for waterproofing. JES was able to schedule the work for the three days before Thanksgiving. Foreman John Rector and crew members Darrin and Paibai were OUTSTANDING! They were very accommodating and understanding, patient with me who was very apprehensive about jackhammers in the basement (and about the dust potential!). They cleaned up thoroughly! Worth the expense! I recommend them without hesitation!

Had not heard of concrete lifting until late last year. Have had settled concrete slabs on our sidewalk along with a settling slab on the walkway to our front door. These were both an eyesore and a hazard (my husband tripped and had a hard fall). Celeste came to the house and proposed a course of action. She explained things and stayed until our questions were answered. We are very happy with the results. When the sidewalk slabs could not be sufficiently lifted because of underlying roots, they replaced the slabs with new concrete at no extra charge! The employees are all very friendly, courteous and responsive.

JES did a fantastic job on our foundation repair! Tice was an absolute pleasure to work with. He spent 3 hours under our house and took over 200 pictures of the damage. Then he spent another 2 hours answering all our questions and explaining the process of repairing the damage and preventing it from happening again. Even though it was a daunting situation, Tice made it palatable and eased our anxiety. Juan and his team were terrific. They worked hard to get the job done and they left no mess! We now have a completely secure foundation and crawl space. It’s actually pleasant to go under our house now! I highly recommend JES to anyone who needs foundation repair. I was very impressed with Andre Williams as my service technician. He was prompt and professional and spent time talking with me and explaining what he was looking at and telling me about it. He was great to talk with and a nice guy.
